Carmen Goga

A career dedicated to art

With over three decades of experience in the art world, Carmen Goga's work is the result of a constant search and a profound passion for identity and materials. Her creative universe expands through deeply personal themes: from the rigorous research and representation of the Chalcolithic goddesses of Extremadura, to her fascination with bulls in the wild—depicted since 1993 on large blue canvases—and her iconic contemporary versions of Las Meninas.

Carmen's path is marked by exceptional self-discipline and work ethic. After attending the Piarist school in Granollers from age 3 to 18, she simultaneously pursued two demanding degrees: a diploma in Conservation and Restoration of Graphic Documents at the Generalitat School of Fine Arts (in the mornings) and a degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona (in the afternoons). This solid technical foundation later culminated in her doctorate and dissertation at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid.

The origin of a different perspective

Carmen's creative drive manifested itself long before textbooks and university classrooms shaped her technique. The true turning point in her artistic life dates back to an everyday moment in her childhood, captured in the simple drawing that illustrates this section. As a young girl, she was asked to draw her mother, a common exercise for children, but the result exceeded all expectations.

While other children her age were content to replicate the straight, flat, and conventional lines typical of their school years, Carmen looked beyond that. She captured her mother's figure from a completely different perspective—intuitive, free from rules, and, surprisingly for her age, imbued with an innate sense of volume and space. That work was not an ordinary children's drawing; it was the early manifestation of a sculptural eye. It was at that precise moment that her family and school realized that what she possessed was not simply an afternoon pastime, but an innate artistic sensibility already seeking its own path.
